King’s North is one of three acclaimed courses at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club, located just a few miles inland from central Myrtle Beach off of Highway 501 and very much in the center of the Grand Strand. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the current iteration of the course opened in 1996 after extensive renovations and was immediately recognized for its high quality of design, with a number of iconic and challenging holes. It regularly appears on “Best in State” course lists by such publications as GOLF Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek.

King’s North is one of relatively few courses in the Myrtle Beach area not lined by houses. Some can be seen on the periphery of the property, but they effectively never come into play, lending guests who book their rounds through an excellent sense of escape, not to mention less concern about hitting numerous shots out-of-bounds. The course sports smooth MiniVerde greens of medium size and gentle contour. King’s North weaves through pine forest and dodges lakes and expansive sandy areas, with a different look from every tee box and a number of risk-reward chances throughout. Though there are many choices for “best hole,” including the par-three 12th with its island green and SC-shaped bunkers or the closing “Bull’s Eye” hole with more than 30 bunkers in its own right, the unquestioned signature hole on the course is the par-five 6th, called “The Gambler.” It is a reachable par five around a lake with an optional island fairway in the middle of said lake. Hit that fairway and be rewarded with as little as a mid-iron second shot and a serious chance for an eagle.

Off the course, visitors have the run of Myrtle Beach National’s excellent facilities. Given that there are three courses on property, the clubhouse is large enough to comfortably permit a high volume of visitors, with a large pro shop, food facilities, locker rooms and an excellent practice area outside with multiple practice chipping and putting greens and a grass driving range. A staff of professionals can arrange and give lessons and club fittings as well, if desired.
